FABC Announces 2017-18 Coaches of the Year

The Florida Association of Basketball Coaches announced its boys and girls high school basketball coaches of the year on Wednesday.

Steve Reece of Oak Ridge and Central Florida Christian’s Jonathan McClintock were named boys coaches of the year in Class 9A and 2A, respectively.

Port Orange Spruce Creek’s Kelvin Hamm (9A), Orlando Christian Prep’s Chris Cenicola (3A) and Kissimmee City of Life’s Dewrie “Ray” Buggs (2A) are the girls coaches of the year.

Per FABC policy, coaches are eligible for the award once per three-year cycle.

Below is the entire list of 2017-18 FABC coach of the year selections.

Boys coaches of year

  • 8A – Chris Blackwell, St. Petersburg
  • 7A – Jorge Fernandez, Doral Academy
  • 6A – Marcus Black, Sarasota Booker

  • 4A – Ehren Wallhoff, Westminster Academy
  • 3A – Darrin Wallace, Canterbury
  • 2A – Jonathan McClintock, Central Florida Christian
  • 1A – Brent Zessin, Blountstown

Girls coaches of year

  • 9A – Kelvin Hamm, Port Orange Spruce Creek
  • 8A – Jason Hively, Davie Nova
  • 7A – Don Brown, Choctawhatchee
