Edward Waters will begin an immediate national search for a new head men’s basketball coach as former head coach Frank Burnell has resigned his post to take the same position at Florida State College at Jacksonville.

“We are extremely thankful for the seven seasons of hard work and dedication that Coach Burnell gave to our men’s basketball program.” remarked Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Stanley B. Cromartie. “He worked tirelessly to ensure that we have a quality program that is respected throughout the country and we will miss his leadership on and off the basketball floor.”

Burnell spent seven seasons at the helm of the men’s basketball program at Edward Waters, compiling an overall record of 91-113. He boasted back-to-back winning seasons in 2013-14 and 2014-15, with his best season coming in 2013-14 having a 17-12 record.

He returns to the junior college ranks after spending over spending over a decade in the Florida College System Athletics Association where in 2005, he was inducted into the FCSAA Hall of Fame for his work at Daytona Beach Community College.

Assistant Coach Danny Pearson will serve as interim head coach until the national search is completed.
