St. Pete Osceola hires Bob Patton Boys Hoops Coach

Osceola announced the hiring of Gibbs assistant Bob Patton as its boys basketball coach on Thursday.

Patton replaces Jeremy Crane, who stepped down in March after six seasons.

There were 52 applicants for the position. The list was whittled down to 10 finalists before a committee decided on Patton this past week.

Patton’s resume is extensive with more than 20 seasons as a head coach at the high school level in Ohio. From 1987-1990, Patton’s teams at Liberty won an Ohio record 63 straight regular season games.

He also was head coach of the Youngstown Pride in the now-defunct World Basketball League for players 6-foot-5 or shorter.  Some of the star players Patton coached with the Pride include Mario Elie, Tim Legler, Keith Smart and Troy Lewis.

Now, Patton’s task is to try to help the Warriors reach the playoffs for just the second time in school history.
