Six days before the start of the regular season, John Carroll Catholic High School’s girls basketball team will have a new coach.
Angel Robertson resigned Tuesday after one season as girls basketball coach and boys and girls tennis coach.
According to John Carroll athletic director Steve Ripley, Robertson cited the opportunity to pursue more responsibilities at St. James Academy, where she is employed full time.
“She was and has been very loyal to the John Carroll family, and we will miss her spirit and loyalty very much,” Ripley wrote in an email announcing Robertson’s resignation.
Robertson was 4-18 in her only season as head coach.
With John Carroll playing in a preseason tipoff classic Wednesday and Thursday at Okeechobee, Ripley will coach the team this season. The Golden Rams open the regular season Nov. 10 at Master’s Academy.
Ripley previously coached John Carroll in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, going 25-22. Robertson was an assistant coach on both teams.
Ripley is 170-82 in nine seasons as a girls basketball coach. He was 40-14 at Monsignor Pace from 1980-82, and 105-46 at Port St. Lucie from 1996-2001.
