When David Mclendon was offered his first head coaching job, he didn’t accept it right away.
“I was really hesitant at first, but I decided to take it,” he said.
Mclendon didn’t let the opportunity go to waste, becoming the Seminole Ridge girls basketball head coach. He replaces Scott O’Hara, who became the Hawks’ flag football coach after spending eight seasons as the school’s girls basketball coach.
Mclendon spent the past two seasons helping to rebuild another team. As Seminole Ridge’s junior varsity boys basketball coach, he followed up a 1-21 year with a 15-12 record this past season.
Now, Mclendon will look to help lift up a Hawks girls basketball team that finished with a 5-15 record last season.
“I just felt like it was my time to prove myself as a head coach,” said Mclendon, who graduated from Palm Beach Lakes High in 2003. “This program is going to be rebuilding and I’ll be a part of that.”
