North Carolina just hooked another Lake Highland basketball star.
Senior guard Destinee Walker announced her commitment to the Tar Heels after school Monday in front of teammates, coaches and friends, choosing the school over Duke, Notre Dame, Penn State and South Carolina.
Former Highlander Joel Berry, a three-time Florida Gatorade Player of the Year, is a freshman guard on UNC’s men’s basketball team.
“He [Berry] just texted me this morning and said whatever decision I make, he’ll be proud of me, but Tar Heels nation was the way to go,” Walker said laughing. “You know when you go visit a school and you just get a feeling like that’s where you’re supposed to go? I just had a feeling that I knew it was for me.”
Walker (5-9) is ranked 17th overall in the nation by ESPN and second at her position.
