6A: Dillard Powers over Largo in 6A Final
In the end, Fort Lauderdale Dillard’s size and inside power was too much for Largo as the Panthers turned a two-point halftime lead into a 66-55 win over the Packers in the Class 6A championship game.
It was Dillard’s sixth state champioship in boys basketball and its first since 2008. Largo was making its first-ever apppearance in a state championship game.
The Packers, who have played without a home gym for two years because of school remodeling, stayed with the bigger Panthers for the first half that ended with Dillard leading 26-24.
In the third quarter, the Panthers outscored Largo 21-12 to take an 11-point lead into the final quarter, a lead they maintained throughout the final quarter.’
A key factor in the game was points in the paint where Dillard finished with a 42-24 advantage.
Jordan Wright led Dillard (28-5) with 21 points while Oliver Bryce had 11. Largo (22-7) was led by Zahidi Robinson and Dakari Allen with 10 points each.
