Ribault girls basketball star Rennia Davis is staying in the Southeast with one of the best women’s college basketball programs of all-time.

Davis, the 6-2 senior wing and reigning Times-Union’s All-First Coast Player of the Year, signed with Tennessee, one of the most storied women’s basketball programs in NCAA history. She announced the decision Sunday after signing with Tennessee in the early signing period that ended Wednesday.

Davis is just the fifth player from Florida to ever sign with Tennessee, and first since Clearwater High’s Dominique Redding in 2003.

Davis had narrowed her choices to Georgia Tech, Kansas, Maryland, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

Davis, an ESPN five-star prospect is the No. 12 player in the country. She averaged 20.3 points and 10.4 rebounds a game last year for the 30-1 Trojans. Ribault won the Class 5A state championship and then went on to win the Dick’s Sporting Goods High School Nationals, with Davis in a starring role. Her star rose throughout the postseason and in to summer ball. She is the No. 9 overall prospect by ProspectsNation.com.

She is a three-time All-State selection, and a preseason All-USA Today All-American.

Davis, who plays club ball with Essence, has opened the 2016-17 high school season on a tear, scoring a career-high 43 points in a win over Parker last week. She’s averaging 38 ppg this season.
