University of North Florida women’s basketball head coach Darrick Gibbs has named Sara Nuxol as the team’s Director of Operations. Nuxol brings a variety of experience and a wealth of knowledge to UNF.

“We are fortunate to add someone to our staff with Sara’s experience,” said Gibbs. “She is a great person who will be a great asset to our players. She has the proven ability to multi-task and is very organized. Sara’s knowledge and background within Florida will help us tremendously in the state.”

Nuxol will be responsible for the day-to-day operations for women’s basketball. She will coordinate the Ospreys’ travel arrangements, equipment and gameday needs and community service projects. Additionally, Nuxol will oversee the student support staff.

Nuxol comes to UNF after spending time in different roles in the Orlando area. She and her sister, current Embry-Riddle head coach Lisa Wilson, founded Blue Star Florida Elite basketball in 2011. Nuxol served as the director of point guard and perimeter player development. Additionally, she handled the direct marketing and promotion of the program, oversaw travel arrangements and scheduling, coordinated NCAA compliance requirements and managed player recruitment and player placement at the collegiate level. Since its inception, every player who has participated in Blue Star Florida Elite has gone on to play at the collegiate level.

Nuxol also served as the head varsity coach at Lake Howell High School (2013-15) and Winter Springs High School (2009-12), guiding eight players to All-Conference honors and helping four players to collegiate basketball careers. She led Lake Howell to a district runner-up finish in 2013.

Nuxol served as the lead recruiter at D1 Sports Training and Therapy in Orlando. She managed the marketing and communications for the various programs and services and the different events hosted by the facility.

A former Division I basketball player, Nuxol started her career at Middle Tennessee State, helping the team to NCAA first-round win over NC State in the 2005 NCAA Tournament. Nuxol then transferred to Samford for her remaining three years and was a guard on the Bulldogs’ roster from 2006-09. Off the court, Nuxol was a SAAC member and chaired the SAMPSY Committee, which organized the Samford’s annual athletic department awards.

Nuxol graduated from Samford with her bachelor’s degree in business administration in May 2009. She earned her master’s in sport and fitness from UCF in May 2011.
