Flagler Palm Coast rising senior basketball player Ivana Boyd committed to Lamar University on Monday.

Boyd, the 2013 News-Journal Player of the Year, averaged 5.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.9 steals per game as a junior. FPC advanced to the state semifinals for the first time in school history, winning a postseason game for the first time since 1977.

The 5-foot-8 combo guard departed for Lamar for an official visit Saturday.

“They treated me like a star and made me feel like I was at home,” Boyd said in a phone interview.

Boyd is FPC’s second Division I commit this summer. Forward Tamara Henshaw gave her verbal to South Florida at the end of June. Former Bulldog Armani Walker, the 2014 Player of the Year, signed with Bethune-Cookman in April.

Lamar, a school in Beaumont, Texas and a member in the Southland Conference, went 17-13 last season and lost in the semifinals of its conference tournament.
