Gardens, Lake Worth, & Suncoast win Tourney Titles

Kayla Brown scored 19 points, leading the No. 10 Palm Beach Gardens girls basketball team to a 60-57 victory over Orland0-Olympia in Wednesday’s championship game of the Florida Prospects Christmas Tournament in Orlando.

Quiana Franklin added 15 points and Emerald Hart contributed 14 for the Gators (13-5). Brown was named MVP of the tournament and Hart and Franklin were named to the all-tournament team.

Tampa Freedom 61, No. 2 Oxbridge Academy 59: Crystal Primm scored 30 points, but the Thunderwolves (13-3) fell to the Patriots at the Florida Prospects Christmas Tournament. Karleigh Joseph added 12 points for Oxbridge.

No. 8 Lake Worth 68, Vero Beach 65: Alexis Sparkman’s 3-pointer at the buzzer lifted the Trojans (13-4) over the Indians in the Emerald Division championship game at the Queen of Palms Tournament in Fort Myers.

It was the second late 3-pointer by Sparkman, who was battling flu-like conditions.

Jonika Garvin was named tournament MVP after totaling 16 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and seven blocks. Kiara Meeks also had a big game for the Trojans with 21 points, five rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals.

Suncoast 54, Orlando-First Academy 23: Jade Virgo had 18 points and seven steals and was named MVP after leading the Chargers to the Pearl Division championship at the Queen of Palms Tournament. Makayla Hineman added seven points and seven rebounds for Suncoast.
