Lake Worth forward/guard Jeantal Cylla won’t be traveling far when he takes the court as a college basketball freshman next fall.

The 2013-14 Palm Beach Post Small Schools Boys Basketball Player of the Year committed to FAU Wednesday night.

Cylla, who averaged 24.4 points as a junior at Lake Worth Christian last season, said he chose the Owls because it was the best fit for him.

He also had considered Tennessee, East Carolina and Virginia Tech, among others.

“It’s a system that I’ll be able to play in, and I liked the coaching staff,” Cylla said of FAU. “(Coach) Michael Curry and I have a close relationship.”

Trojans coach Murray Smith expects Cylla to make an impact at FAU, which finished 10-21 last season and is off to a 1-1 start this year.

“I think he’ll do really well,” Smith said. “He wants to win, he’s got a good attitude. He works hard. He really loves the game.”
