Berkeley Prep to host National Boys hoops event

Berkeley Prep will be the destination for top boys basketball action this January.

The school will host a local, then a national, boys basketball tournament in January, which will field some of the best teams in the country.

The private school in Tampa will host the National Hoops Fest, presented by ARS Rescue Rooter, that will benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, January 23-24 and will feature Montverde Academy (Florida), the No.1 ranked team in the nation according to; West Virginia’s Huntington Prep, ranked sixth; Jacksonville’s Arlington Country Day, ranked ninth; Chicago’s Simeon, ranked No. 13; and Oldsmar Christian, ranked No. 25.

Filling out the bracket are Tampa Bay powerhouses Tampa Prep, Lakewood, Bartow and host Berkeley Prep.

The schedule is as follows:

Jan. 23

6:30 – Tampa Prep vs. Arlington Country Day

8:00 – Berkeley Prep vs. Lakewood

Jan. 24

3:00 – Huntington Prep vs. Oldsmar Christian

4:30 – Lakewood vs. Bartow

6:00 – Tampa Prep vs. Montverde Academy

7:30 – Berkeley Prep vs. Chicago Simeon

Earlier in January, Berkeley will again have its annual Berkeley Invitational. That bracket includes defending state champion Orlando Lake Highland Prep.
